North Avenue has a huge heart for sharing God’s love in the world. We seek to participate in God’s transformative and healing work in and amongst ourselves, our neighbors, and our global community.
OUR VISION: In our shared service with others, we expectantly look for the Spirit to bring transformation to all involved – ourselves, our partners, local community members, government, and partner agencies. We see this as evidence of sustainable and transformative work that leads to shalom (peace, fullness, and completeness). This is an expression of who we are now, as well as who we are becoming – our imagined future. [Is 65:17-25]

Our Community Values and Approach
- Relationships matter – a lot.
- Local neighborhood knowledge, leadership, co-creation, and ownership are critical to bring about the fullness of our shared work together.
- Engagement – We live in an increasingly multi-cultural society. No one should be left out: diverse socio-economic and intergenerational approaches promote inclusive engagement.
- Participating together in God’s ongoing story makes visible the Kingdom of God in neighborhoods and nations around the world.
Our Faith Values and Approach
- We are all created in the image of God, uniquely gifted with the passion and purpose needed for flourishing communities. [Jer 29:7]
- We believe that the God of justice and mercy is ever present; from before we enter a community, and after we leave.
- We respect our neighbors of other faiths and seek:
- dialogue – as a sign of hope, growing our knowledge of each other.
- common action – joint actions that address tough issues in our life together.
Our Partners
We seek to work with partners who take a Both – And approach that breaks down the perceived barriers between: Jesus and Justice; Scripture and Social Impact; Reconciliation, Restoration and Shalom.
We work through a) Collaboration, b) Coordination and c) Cooperation frameworks as mutually agreed in each partnership.
Our Volunteers Opportunity – time, talent, and treasure
We aspire to create opportunities for volunteers to:
- Engage with people in acts of justice and compassion, in humility [Micah 6:8]
- Promote restoration, reconciliation and shalom in the community.
- Seek the welfare of the city where God has placed us, building flourishing community [Jer 29:7]
Focus Areas
We support partners with a focus on.
Children and Families, the Unhoused community, and Students – local and international

Focused Community Strategies

We were founded in 1978, and began working in Historic South Atlanta in 2000. Recognizing that the factors that shape this community are complex and dynamic, we use a comprehensive approach organized around four pillars: economic development, mixed-income housing, neighborhood engagement, and training & consulting. In addition to our own community development efforts, FCS acts as the “community quarterback” for our neighborhood. As a member of the Purpose Built Communities national network, we help articulate our residents’ vision, marshal resources, and align the work of many cross-sector partners to achieve neighborhood goals.
